From its roots as a fishing village to the thriving community it is today, Newquay has withstood the test of time and is still as popular resort as it ever was. It’s got a mixed up vibe, with surfers and hipsters sharing the sands with families and pensioners on their yearly jaunt to the beach. And the town caters well for all its visitors, with trendy cafes sitting alongside amusement arcades and ice cream stalls. Here’s a little peak at some of our favourite parts of Newquay

The Harbour

newquay habour

A thriving fish and seafood harbour, it’s a pretty idyllic place. Kids can feed the resident seals, whilst mum and dad can enjoy a chilled glass of wine in The Boat House, a seafood restaurant located right in the harbour overlooking all the action. From the harbour you can book diving, fishing and sightseeing trips, so it’s definitely worth a visit on your trip to Newquay

newquay town centre shopping

Newquay’s got a wide selection of shops, including surf shops, high street chains, independent boutiques, unique gift shops and of course the usual fudge & ice cream parlours. So if you are looking for a gift for Grandma or the latest in surf & lifestyle fashion, then Newquay’s shopping will have something for everyone

Other than the beaches, Newquay has got a wide variety of attractions and activities to keep you entertained. Why not take the kids down to Trenance Boating Lake and Gardens and spend an afternoon wandering the beautiful floral gardens or taking a rowing boat onto the lake. Newquay is a great base for a walking break. Located on the South West Coast Path, there are walks in and around Newquay to suit all ages and abilities, from short beachside ambles to more strenuous cliff and coastal path romps. newquay cornwall events

Throughout the year Newquay has lots of music, surf competitions, cultural and foodie events going on. The BoardMasters is probably the most famous; a week long surfing and music festival, which has played host to some of the best international surfers as well as famous bands and artists such as Snoop Dogg, Rudimental, Groove Armada and Chase & Status. For the music fans after a less crowded vibe, lots of the local pubs and beaches offer live music, whether its local band “the Prevention” playing rock covers down the Red Lion, or chilled out Aussie Xavier Rudd, playing into the sunset at the stunning Lusty Glaze Sundowner Sessions

There also plenty of food and cultural stuff going on in Newquay. Every year, the town hosts Newquay Art 8, a weeklong festival dedicated to Art in all its forms. There is also the infamous fish festival, when the harbour becomes a mecca for all things fish and foodie, including live music, fresh fish BBQs and lots of local produce to buy

And of course Newquay, as the centre of British Surfing hosts many surfing competitions through-out the year, so if you are after some inspiration for your surfing, then why not watch the pros battle it out for the prestigious titles including British and English Champion. Our own surf coach Mike often enters these events, so you can show your support and hang out on the beach with his crowds of adoring fans!! :)
